10 Days of a Very Vegas Holiday: Your Ultimate Guide to December in Las Vegas

People don’t usually think of the desert when they think of Christmas time, but Las Vegas is a great destination for the month of December! After all, what city has as many twinkly lights as a decorated and lit up tree? As a local, we know all the spots that are worth waiting in line for and which you should ditch. We’ve brought you the ultimate guide to spending the rest of the month in Las Vegas. All the suggestions listed have adjusted their regular business procedures according to CDC and state recommendations regarding the pandemic. Now let’s get festive!

Day 1: The Bellagio Hotel

Four times a year, the team of horticulturalists/designers convert the 14,000 square foot conservatory into a floral explosion themed to the season. This winter holiday, the conservatory has produced the imaginary world of Her Majesty Queen Bellissima. The space is fitted with a 42-foot-tall silver tip fir tree decked in thousands of lights and a royal 4-horse drawn carriage. Admission: free, open 24 Hours from Dec. 7 to Jan. 4 Outside of the hotel are the famed Bellagio fountains. Fun fact: the display spans more than 1,000 feet with water soaring nearly 500 feet high! Day 2: NV Ballet Theatre: The Nutcracker Behind The Scenes

Every year, The Smith Center puts on an amazing production of The Nutcracker. The city of Las Vegas has come to revere the show and sees it as a holiday tradition. While The Smith Center is sadly closed this year due to the pandemic, The NV Ballet Theatre and Discovery Children’s Museum have joined forces to bring you The Nutcracker Extravaganza: Behind The Scenes. This once a year exhibit gives guests and exclusive view of the original set and costume pieces from the play and will be available Dec. 19- Jan. 3! Day 3: Glittering Lights at the LV Motor Speedway You and your loved ones can drive through millions of glittering Christmas lights all from the comfort and safety of your own car! Glittering Lights is open now till January 10th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Admission: Monday - Thursday: $25 per vehicle Friday - Sunday, Holidays and December 19 - January 1: $35 per vehicle Fast Pass: $55-$65 per vehicle Santa Selfie Station: $75 per vehicle Hours: Sunday - Thursday

Day 4: Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan Hotel For the best views of the Las Vegas strip and the most festive holiday activity, make sure to head over to the Cosmopolitan Hotel rooftop for ice skating! At The Ice Rink, named one of USA Today’s Best Ice Skating Rinks in North America, you can skate across 4,200 square feet of real ice, roast s’mores by a fire pit, and indulge in holiday food and beverage offerings.

Local Tip: If you and your partner are looking for date night fun, Date Skate every Monday and Tuesday (till December 29, 2020) is the perfect idea! Enjoy a holiday movie under the stars while ice skating! Day 5: Downtown Summerlin Downtown Summerlin’s holiday ice skating rink, the Rock Rink, has returned! Rock Rink has amazing views of Red Rock and a 40 foot Christmas tree overlooking the 8,000 square foot space. The Rock Rink will be open now till January 18, 2021! Check the DTS website for hours as they may vary throughout the season. Admission: $16 And don’t forget to ride the Jupiter Express Holiday Train, which circles the rink and the Christmas tree as festive holiday music plays in the background! Tickets: $4 Day 6: Winter Parq Promenade & High Roller at The Linq Make sure to visit the Winter Parq Promenade at the Linq Hotel for a winter wonderland experience, Vegas style! You may run into Santa Claus or the Parq carolers as you stroll your way through the promenade. Make sure to admire the 2,000 LED lights and the snow that falls nightly every 30 minutes from 5 PM to midnight. And you can’t miss the magical 35 foot Christmas tree! At the end of the Promenade you’ll find the world’s tallest observation wheel, the High Roller! This is a once in a lifetime experience that's 550 feet up in the air! Hours: Monday-Thursday

Day 7: Ethel M. Holiday Cactus Garden Experience a true desert holiday with 1 million LED lights in a 3 acre cactus garden over at Ethel M! You can also catch Santa Claus on select dates posted on their website. For more fun like chocolate/coffee tastings, factory tours and more visit the Ethel M website. Reservations are required this year but admission is free, open now till January 3rd! Day 8: Area 15’s Wanderland

Area 15 is a new and immersive experience; this season they have created Wanderland, a family friendly holiday must-see! Stroll through dozens of Christmas trees lit up by twinkly lights and decorated with numerous Instagrammable moments. As you continue inside you’ll find private snow globes where you can dine and drink from a holiday menu. Experiences include a 360° degree projection mapped room, a flight simulator, hang gliding, axe throwing and more! Ticket reservations are required but admission is free, open now till December 27th! Day 9: Rail Explorers Rail Explorers, a new outdoor attraction based out of Boulder City, is the perfect family friendly experience! Rail explorers are pedal powered vehicles that ride on railroad tracks. The outdoor tour starts by being greeted by elves who will offer cookies, candy canes, hot chocolate and/or hot apple cider! This is the best way to enjoy the desert scenery and get in the holiday spirit! Tours are available till December 31st! Check out their website for more information. Day 10: Festival of Lights

Last but not least is Opportunity Village’s Festival of Lights! Listen to your favorite holiday tunes as millions of lights perfectly dance around you in synchronization. There will be rides, games, and plenty of food options for you to enjoy under the nightly snowfall. And don't forget about your family photos with Santa!
